Local Visitor to our Group – Peter D. Cole

Peter Cole, a very successful sculptor who lives just out of Kyneton, came to give a talk to our group.
He discussed his practice and how the landscape around him has inspired his work.
Peter and his wife have travelled extensively and this has produced a huge body of work.
ABOUT Peter D. Cole
Sculptor Peter D. Cole was born in Gawler, South Australia and trained at the South Australian School of Art between 1965 and 1968. Since the 1980’s Cole has been based in the Kyneton District of Victoria, where he has established himself as one of Australia’s senior and most reno wned contemporary sculptors, drawing on the landscape as a source of inspiration and recent research trips to Japan and India have added to his rich source material.
As a public artist, Cole has made a significant contribution to the urban landscape and public spaces of Australia receiving the Australian National Trust Heritage Award and the Australian Institute of Landscape Architecture Award of Merit for Foundation Park, a permanent work at The Rocks, Sydney. He is highly sought for commissions and his work is prominent in many public and corporate collections throughout Australia, including Parliament House, Canberra, the National Gallery of Australia, and Brisbane International Airport and recently Windsor Railway Station precinct. He was awarded the H.P. Gill medal for top student and the Contemporary arts Society award for drawing in 1968 and has exhibited regularly since 1969 with exhibitions in Australia and America, with notably a solo exhibition in 1995 at The Carpenter Centre, Harvard University USA.
Cole lectured in sculpture between 1975 and 2001 and has worked continuously on his practice encompassing sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, design and architecture. His work is represented in many collections both private and public throughout Australia, America, Japan and Europe.

Remembrance Day Exhibition at RSL Kyneton
The Kyneton RSL hosted an annual Remembrance Day Art Exhibition,
featuring works by the Kyneton Art Group,
alongside its main Remembrance Day Service on the 11th November at the Cenotaph.
Refreshments were served at the RSL in Kyneton following the service.
An enjoyable day for all those who attended.
2025 ANNUAL ART EXHIBITION
Our Annual Art Exhibition held over the weekend of the 12th to 14th September
was a great success with many visitors and many sales.
The quality of the artworks presented was outstanding, and we thank all our members
who participated in this event.
Our Awards Presentation held on the Friday evening prior to the show, was enjoyed by all.
Light refreshments were served whilst the awards were presented to the winners.
Our judge this year was Terry Jarvis and here are our WINNERS;
Anna McGrath was presented with the Esther Rose Memorial Prize for her watercolour painting titled “Single Petal Beauty”
Anna also received a Highly Commended Award for another watercolour painting, this one titled “Pretty as a Picture”
Stephanie Warr won First Prize in the Flora section for her painting titled;
“In the Garden”
Vivian Dellar was awarded the Expressionism Prize for her artwork –
“A Teenager’s Veil”
Judith Place received the Best Portrait Award for her pastel artwork,
“At work with the horses”
Judith Place also received the award for Best Still Life for this lovely pastel work – ‘Blue and White with Rosehips’.
We had 3 winners in the Landscape section:
And Tony Young also received a Highly Commended Award for his beautiful watercolour painting “Warrandyte near River”.
Shay Pappas was presented with the award for the Best Landscape for her painting titled “Time stood still and a tree began”.
Helen Atherton won a Highly Commended for her painting;
“Garden of Eden, Kings Canyon”
Other Winners
Helen Atherton also won the ‘Best Painting’ award in the Fauna section for pastel artwork titled “Hard at Work “.
And finally, the People’s Choice Award went to Allison Howarth for her fabulous painting “Venus Baths Walking Track, Grampians”
A very big congratulations to all the above winners in this year’s Annual Art Exhibition.

One of our Kyneton Members, Judy Perfect presented the RSL in Kyneton with a mural, painted on three large panels to form the backdrop for the Light Horsemen in the foyer display cabinet.
The mural aptly depicts the Australian Light Horsemen who took part in the last great cavalry charge at Beersheba on 1 October 1917.
Here is Judy alongside her fabulous artwork with representatives Michael Gretton and Ian Jackson.
As to be expected, the representatives were very pleased with this brilliant piece of artwork.
Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show 2025
The Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show is the ultimate celebration of creativity, nature, and blooming possibilities!
Set in the breathtaking surroundings of the heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building and the stunning Carlton Gardens,
this iconic event is a feast for the senses, attracting many visitors across the five day event.
Our Kyneton Art Group members once again participated in this great event which finished on Sunday, 30th March.
The event attracted many visitors and several of the paintings shown below on our exhibition stands were sold.
